  1. "Why is a birthday cake the only food you can blow on and spit on and everybody rushes to get a piece? "-- Bobby Kelton  I know that this is the only time that I am willing to eat slobbered on food.  It definitely is one of the best!
  2. "Birthdays are nature's way of telling us to eat more cake."- Anonymous  As for me, I say "Let them eat cake".  That means more ice cream, cheese cake, chocolates, and apple crisp for me!
  3. "Time and Tide wait for no man, but time always stands still for a woman of thirty." -Robert Frost Again, I am an exception to the rule, I was very proud to be thirty and beyond.  I found out that I was having my "surprise" baby Skylar on my 30th birthday.
  4. "The best birthdays of all are those that haven’t arrived yet." I have been surprised many times on my birthday.  I had my son on my 23rd birthday.  It was a miracle that I carried that baby to term and beyond!  He was the best birthday present that I ever got.
  5. "Youth is a disease from which we all recover." We all get better with age.  We either mellow or become more of who we really are.

Happy Chinese New Year! The Year of the Ox starts today. What is your Chinese zodiac animal? Do you think you fit the description of the sign?

It turns out I am a pig.  Bummer. I hate pigs!  The neighbors next door when I was a kid had giant scary pigs that used to get out of the pen and run around.  They were terrifying!

What I find funny is that some of the description was accurate.  While I do enjoy life, I am not sure that it would be right for me to say that I am "entertaining" and that "others enjoy my company".  It seems presumptuous.  I completely agree with "honesty is what Pigs give and it’s what they expect to receive in return."  I'll forgive just about anything but a lie.

"Pigs" like to spend money and enjoy name brands. When it comes to money though, I am more like the piggy bank that a traditional Chinese zodiac animal.  I like to save a buck or two.  "Pigs" enjoy a good deal, I will say I love a good bargain!

"Always seeking fun, Pigs often indulge more than they should. Excessive eating, drinking and smoking can cause sickness. Pigs aren’t very active and, combined with their excessive behaviors, cause them to gain weight. Pigs are social and being alone makes them unhappy. Pigs would benefit from adopting a healthier lifestyle. "   Okay, I will say that this is a bit accurate.  I haven't always been very active and I have gained some weight over the years.... but I have been working very diligently (another pig trait: diligence) to rectify that.  And it doesn't hurt that that I have a career that promotes good nutrition and health in children!

"Pigs enjoy helping at work and can always be counted on. They enjoy opportunities that allow them to express their creativity. Pigs are detail-oriented, a trait admired by management. Pigs aren’t afraid to take on responsibility. ” Again, cannily accurate.  I always want to be the "Boss" but I am a great assistant.  I love being creative in the workplace as well!  I am detailed -oriented which helps in the role of an assistant.

"Supportive and giving, Pigs make great partners. They’re affectionate and sexual and prefer staying home to going out. They enjoy what they have, especially their home and family. Once they find the right partner, they’re typically committed for the long-term."   Who doesn't see themselves as supportive and giving?  I strive for that but in reality I feel that an accurate description would be a bit short of this.  I try.  But I am moody and impatient too.  I do think that I am affectionate but beyond that it is really nobody's business.  I mostly like to stay home in my little burrow with all my "piglets".  I do enjoy an evening out with my buddies too.

As for Pigs and the elements I fall into the Metal Pigs.  Sounds like a hard rock band.  Metal Pigs "have a tough exterior, and this strength can be seen in all areas of life. They work diligently and love with all they have. They’re outspoken and trust others right away."  I do have a hard time keeping my opinion to myself!

So in summary: Personality, I give 6 out of 10 for accuracy.  Money, just 4 out of 10.  I do like a bargain but I couldn’t care less about name brands!  Health, I would say 7 out of 10.  I am working to repair the damage caused by a fun-loving excessive personality. Work and Career, I give an 8+.  I really enjoy a good day of work with large accomplishments.  Relationships:  I strive for 10 out of 10 but in reality fall short of that.  It was a fun subject to write about and completes some self therapy at the same time.

I have just recently gave hugs to someone that I did not know.  I am not a "touchy" or "huggy" person.  If anything, I am a whacker.  I whack people in the arm when I get excited! So, it was pretty out of the ordinary for me to sponateously give a stranger a hug.

I was making my visits monitoring at daycare homes. In this situation, the provider answer the door and burst into tears. She was so upset that I reached in, grabbed her, and gave her a hug.  She looked like she needed one.  She then told me that her father had just died and that she forgot to let me know that she was closed.  She cried, I cried.  We hugged.  She told me that she really needed the hug I gave.

Sometimes hugs heal.

This is my second  attempt to have a blog where my far-flung family and friends and I can keep in touch.  My last experience kind of freaked me out!  The only people to respond were single men even though I clearly stated that I was married and looking to keep in tough with family!   Be patient and kind and remember this is a new experience for me.

So....for my first entry I am going to keep it short and see what happens!
